Is it too late to plant them?

Can I grow daffodils in a container on my balconey?
Daffodils should be planted in the fall between September and December. It depends a little on what the climate is like where you live. Get them in the soil when your temps are between 50 degrees and 60 degrees. Make sure you put them in a sunny spot where they'll get at least five hours of sunshine in the spring.
Reply:Helloooo.... what are people saying here. Yes it takes about 90 to100 days of freezing temperature (outside) to activate the chemicals inside the daffodil bulb to tell them they are experienceing winter. Without the cold they will not grow in the spring. A few years ago we had such a mild winter in southern NY that many bulbs never came up because the soil never got cold enough. You can force bulbs to bloom by putting them immediately into your refrigerator in a ziplock bag with a few holes (so it gets air). Put the bulbs in safe spot like a freezer container with the lid not sealed in the coldest part of the refrigerator . Usually this is closest to the bottom shelf or near the freezer. You should do this for 100 days Add a tablespoon of dry bulb food or bone meal to the potting soil. Plant the bulb 2 inches deep in the pot. Water them every 4 to 5 days and keep them in sunny spot like a south facing window. Or if you don't have enough light in your house you can use a plant lamp on a timer. Good Luck! Daffodils generally can handle 30 degree farenheit temperatures but anything less than that you should put your container inside the house until it warms up again. Make sure they are getting at least 4 hours of direct light a day.
Reply:yes, can . It'st late
Reply:you would have to put the bulbs in the freezer for a month take them out plant them in a pot and put the pot in a sunny window
Reply:Yes you can but it is a little late. If you have artificial lighting you can force any bulbs to bloom at almost any time of the year.
Reply:You might want to wait because they do not do well in the frost.

Good luck!
Reply:of course you can, where I live on the west coast of Canada, it's the perfect time of year for planting daffodils, check w/ Google for your area/climate :)
