I planted in October and with the mild winter we've been having here in Chicago, I already have growth on my daffodils? What can I do to get them to go dormant until spring?
Daffodils already coming up?
Nothing you can do, the mulch is a good idea. Here in South Australia they start blooming in early winter and go through the whole season, even in areas with quite heavy frosts. Maybe throw some protection over them if it looks like snow.
If it continues mild, be happy! Nothing quite as cheery as daffodils on a grey wintery day - they really brighten up our winters.
Reply:Nothing really. Next year make sure you Mulch them when it starts to freeze so the ground does not thaw and they grow.
