I need to dig and separate tulip bulbs. Can I dry them over the summer and wait to plant them in the fall?

These bulbs are either too thick or too close to cedar trees. Some no longer bloom for this reason. I also have daffodils that are getting too crowded. My grandmother planted them since before I can remember (her home is now mine) and I don't want to lose them, but I'm also tired of mowing around them every year until they dry out.

Dig and separate them - take the spares and put them in damp peat moss for a few weeks as required. See the links below or take a chance (like I do) and just heel them into a more remote part of the yard or put them in a pot and drop some compost in there with them and hold them until you can find another location or give them away.
Reply:If they have no already bloomed then u are fine to pull the bulbs, put them in a paper brown bag and keep them in a cool place and u should be able to replant the bulbs in the fall
Reply:Yes. TRY to wait as LONG as you can til the Tops die off; then dig them up %26amp; put them in a cool, dark, dry place for the Summer (a Basement corner- would be fine). Then, in early October, -replant them Outside, along with a handfull of Bonemeal, wherever you you want them to bloom next Spring! 10 to 1 -they're gonna look Gorgeous! :)
Reply:Dig them up, store them in onion sacks (mesh bags) so that they'll dry out and not rot and put them back in the ground in their new bed in the Autumn. Enjoy then anew next Spring.
